The task involved migrating their existing GE CoPilot application to a secure Azure environment and integrating external data sources like PubMed, NIH Reporter, and Consensus.app via Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture. Our solution was designed to ensure comprehensive and reliable information retrieval while maintaining strict adherence to NIH-approved formatting.
We began by meticulously migrating their infrastructure, ensuring a seamless transition to Azure while maintaining performance and security. Simultaneously, we integrated a network of external databases, validating API connections to ensure consistent, accurate data retrieval. To address content gaps, we developed a web-scraper to capture additional data from non-API sources like LinkedIn and academic webpages.
Our custom large language model (LLM) was fine-tuned to automate biosketch creation. We established prompts capable of synthesizing and organizing input into predefined sections such as Personal Statements, Contributions to Science, and Educational Background. Each section was structured to match NIH standards, combining precise data aggregation with the flexibility to customize tone and focus per grant requirements.
The results were remarkable. Within weeks, Grant Engine had a fully functional automated NIH Biosketch Generator.
